2012 SUMMER CHESS

Need to keep your child's brain working throughout the summer? Stay involved in chess! Not only will it give them something fun to do, but it will give them advantage over all the kids that forget about chess until the school year.

Every TUESDAY NIGHT I teach a group  lesson. These lessons will start back up April 3rd. For the month of April they will go from 6:30-8pm and we will focus on blitz (speed chess), bughouse (partner chess), and tactics! $5 per week at Cloverdale & Fairview. Last year classes were full so I will open up Monday Night Chess if there’s enough participation.

BLITZ & BUGHOUSE TOURNAMENT  is April 14th!!!  Blitz is timed chess (5 minutes on each side of the clock). Bughouse is partner chess. When you take your opponent’s pieces, you then give those pieces to your partner who can then place them onto their board. Bughouse is also timed, 5 minutes on each side of the clock. There are 5 different round, and you play each person 2 games (one game as white, one as black), equaling 10 games. My goal is to hold a tournament once a month throughout the summer so kids can stay involved. As long as I have participants, I'll keep doing them.

SUMMER CAMP was a blast last year! Dates are June 4th-8th. However, some private schools are still in school during camp so I may hold a 2nd Camp June 18th-22nd depending on enough participation. Let me know if you’re interested in either camp! Camps include a week full of playing chess, learning new strategies, solving puzzles, playing in a chess simul and tournament, making friends, and playing capture the flag and water games! Pre-register by May 4th to save $25. ALL registrations after May 21st are charged a $25 late fee.

Lyndsay Wright

My best friend Lyndsay Wright was diagnosed with Leukemia last month and started Chemotherapy right away. She is currently in her second round of Chemo and has been in the hospital for the past month. It has been a crazy month full of news and procedures nobody wants to go through, especially at the age of 19. The way that Lynsday has handled it has amazed and inspired me. Inspite of going through all of this she has stayed positive and full of joy. I want to help alleviate the burden of this so I'm giving the proceeds of the Ice Tournament to her. I'd love your support so be sure to come out and play some chess!!! To find out more information on her journey or to donate go to www.lyndsayfight.org
